Spark of Hope – A Horse who Heals

Spark of Hope – A Horse who Heals

My name is Sarah Patnode and I am the owner of Full Stride Leadership. My journey began six years ago as my husband and I were expecting our first child, a baby girl. I was shocked to discover during a routine prenatal doctor visit that I had lost her to what is called a missed miscarriage.  I was devastated.  I felt like the bottom dropped out of my life and I fell into a deep despair.  I knew that I had to find a connection that would help heal my broken heart.

My brother Matt encouraged me to watch a heartfelt documentary called Buck, which was about a real horse whisper named Buck Brannaman.  Watching a documentary, the day after my loss was the last thing I wanted to do, but I agreed.  During the film I watched how Buck taught people to communicate with their horses through leadership and sensitivity, not punishment.   After watching Buck’s story, I was inspired, and I knew what I needed to do, I needed a horse connection.

That is when I found Lyle, 1150-pound, Appaloosa Gelding. a school horse at the Ox Yoke Stables. He is a wise and patient teacher.  I will never forget our first meeting…he bumped my outstretched had with the top of his nose as to say to me – I see your heart and I will help you find it again despite your loss and your pain.  Lyle saved me, and I promised to be his voice and save his hooved friends, to give them a second chance like he gave me.

Meeting Lyle was not a coincidence, it was destiny.  Lyle and I were brought together for a purpose.  Our purpose with the Great Save! campaign is to give back to others in a powerful way that saves lives. My hope is that I have done for him what he has done for me, be a true friend.

We thank-you for your GREAT SAVE! 50% of the profit from this purchase will go to benefit the Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation. You have made a difference!

In full stride!

Human says, “Carry me into the wind.  Take me to the places where I can glide close to high tree branches…Your heart will remind me to seek what I have lost.  Your spirit will listen to the voices I do not hear.  You are a Horse.  I will care for you.  Together, we will journey…Horse knickers softly.  He places his head on Human’s shoulder, his long neck encircling her short one.  He smells the familiar fragrance of her hair as his chest presses against her heart.  Horse accepts the deal.”
